Kaokoland Special Tour

This Special guided tour explores the splendid landscapes and wildlife of the pristine and remote Kaokoland.

Day 1

Opuwo – Orupembe

Meet up with your guide at Opuwo. Today you will enter Kaokoland. Kaokoland or Kaoko is a beautiful remote area situated in north west of Namibia. Its a very mountainous area and home to the Ovahimba, one of the semi nomadic tribes in southern Africa. This tribe makes its living by small subsistence farming mainly with cattle, goats and sheep. The area is also home to a wide variety of wildlife including springbok, oryx, elephant, giraffe, lion, rhino and the desert adapted elephant.
Depart through beautiful, pristine landscapes in the direction of Orupembe. We will have a picnic lunch en route.
Dinner will be enjoyed under an open African sky prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients.
We will spend the night in tents.

Day 2

Orupembe – Marienfluss

Breakfast will be at the camp prepared by the guide with the aid of the clients
Today we visit the village of one of the last remaining nomadic tribes, the Ovahimba. You will learn about their different ways of living and their daily activities. This ancient tribe of semi-nomadic herders have managed to survive and keep their traditions despite the harsh desert environment in which they live. They wear few clothes apart from a loin cloth or goat skinned mini skirts. The women are reknowned for the red ochre and fat (otjize) which they rub over their bodies to protect themselves from the sun, and which gives their skin a rich red colour. They are also known for their jewellery and intricate hairstyles.

A picnic lunch will be had en route prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients before continuing in the direction of Marienfluss passing by the Hartman's valley.
We arrive at the campsite in Marienfluss which is based on the edge of the Kunene river and border between Namibia and Angola. You can easily see the mountains of Angola from the campsite.
Dinner will be made over an open fire by the guide with the assistance of the clients.
We overnight at the campsite in tents.

Day 3

Marienfluss Valley

The Marienfluss Valley is situated in stunning, scenic landscapes between the Otjihipa mountans in the east and Hartmann moutains in the west. We will depart early for sunrise and a lovely breakfast in the bush. The rest of the day you will be free to explore and enjoy the wonderful natural surroundings.
Lunch and dinner will be prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients.

Day 4

Marienfluss Valley – Purros

After breakfast we depart in the direction of Purros passing by the Rooidrom. We have a picnic lunch en-route. The area is one of beautiful vistas with great game viewing opportunities in a truly wild environment.
We arrive and check in at Purros Community Bush Lodge(self catering).
Dinner will be prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients.

Day 5

Purros

Breakfast will be prepared by the guide.
We depart for a game and nature drive in the Hoarusib river bed in search of the reknowned Desert Adapted Elephants. Other wildlife in this desert area include desert adapted lions, giraffe, springbok, oryx, steenbok, Mountain Zebra, as well birds including the largest non flying bird, the ostrich.
Lunch will be had back at the bush lodge, prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients.
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a scenic drive and sundowner in the Namib desert.
Dinner at the lodge will be prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients.

Day 6

Purros – Bivouac, Hoanib River

Breakfast is at the bush lodge prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients. We depart in the direction of the Hoanib river in search of the desert adapted Elephants. We pass through very scenic and unspoilt landscapes of mountains and plains, creating a feeling of being on the moon.
We enjoy a lovely picnic lunch in the middle of this magnificent wilderness, prepared by your guide.
Your last dinner will be a delicious typical African barbeque enjoyed under an open African star where the stars and Milky Way are vividly visible. Dinner:you last dinner will be a lovely typical African barbeque in the middle of nowhere on the open African sky with lots of stars as well as the milky way.
A night of bivouac in African nature.

Day 7

Bivouac – Opuwo

Breakfast will be prepared by the guide with the assistance of the clients. You will be taken back to Opuwo. Lunch and Dinner will be at your own expense.
